Spotting Email Scams

I made a short painless 2 1/2 minute video to demonstrate three techniques you can use to spot email scams. This will catch nearly all of them.

  • Check from address.
    • If it was sent to you from a subject, not a person, then it is a scam. So, emails from: Male Enhancement, NaturalDogFood, Big Beautiful Women or Las vegas vacation are scams.
    • Check domain of the sender. If the email claims to be from Netflix, but is from someone at membership.com then it is a scam.
  • Hover over a link and check the domain, usually in the lower left corner. If the email says it is from Netflix, but points you to: watchservice.net then it is a scam.
  • Look at the header and see where the Return-Path and Envelop-From are going.

Or, just watch my 2.5 minute video.
