For Fun: Our identity

Who are you?

Elon Musk on the probability that we are living in a simulation

His argument stripped is simply that with the progression in artificial intelligence and virtual reality, at some point in the future we'll have a billion virtual worlds with residents who think they are real and cannot be distinguished from the original people. If that is true, then the chance that we are the original and first to make a realistic virtual world is a billion to one against us. Therefore, we are almost assuredly a simulation.

  • An interview with the Oxford philosopher who supposedly gave Musk this idea:
  • Under 4 minute video of a question and answer at a conference. Musk answers the question of whether we might merely be a simulation with the answer that the odds are over a billion to 1 in favor of our being a simulation.
