Mobile App of the Month

QR Codes, short for Quick Response codes, are two dimensional bar codes as shown left. They are frequently used to link our smart phones to a website for more product information or purchase. Unfortunately, though they are easy for machines to read, the aren't readable by people. This makes them somewhat dangerous to use, since we aren't really sure where they are taking us.

Kaspersky Labs, a famous and respected security firm, is helping to solve this problem with their smart phone app, QR Scanner . It is available for both Android and iOS. First off, it works very well and makes it easy to use the QR code to link to websites or add contacts. In addition, it checks the site and warns you if it contains dangerous links. It translates the link into English, and keeps a text link record of scanned codes. Finally, it is free.
