Beware of Your Browser ExtensionsPreview:18 popular browser extensions were turned malicious after updates, infecting over 2.3 million users with a Trojan horse. This article advises users to review and remove unnecessary extensions.
Eighteen excellent browser extensions, with over 800 reviews and 2.3 million users, became, in time, malicious purveyors of a dangerous Trojan horse. That malware created a persistent command and control backdoor, allowing the miscreants total control of your computer. Some of these browser extensions were excellent for years before getting an update that turned them bad. Perhaps the authors sold their code or simply allowed someone else to take over the project. Google, Microsoft, and Mozilla handle extension updates silently, just doing it. They do not scrutinize their stores as well as they need to. I suggest checking and removing all extensions you are not sure are worthwhile.
