InControl

Preview:

Gibson Research is offering a new free utility putting you in control of Windows version updates. I recommend it.

Steve Gibson has produced another small, useful software utility. InControl controls Window's automatic updating/upgrading system. You will control major version updates and feature releases. All normal updates for your current version will continue as usual. When you are ready to update your Windows, then you can release control and allow those version updates.

I'm using this tiny tool on my machine and have installed it on some client machines as well. It just changes the necessary settings, it doesn't require that something remains running. I recommend it.

What does it really do?

There are six registry settings that are set to control Windows' updates. InControl simply examines how they are set and reports the results to you. If Windows is in control, it allows you to take control of your computer. If you are in control, it allows you to relinquish control back to Windows.
