You Don't Need to Buy a Windows 11 Computer!!!Preview:You can continue to use your Windows 10 computers for many years. We can obtain security patches until at least 2030. Here are some options. As most people know, Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 10 in October 2025. I thought this was going to force everyone to either upgrade to Windows 11 or buy a new computer. But there is hope. You do not need to get a new computer. If your Windows 10 computer works perfectly well, and isn't ancient, then you do not need to buy a new computer. You have three other options. These are particularly good if you have older software, like Quickbooks, that you might not be able to install on a new computer.
Option 1.Microsoft says it will sell a one-year security update extension for $30. So, for just $30, you will be able to purchase another year of coverage for your Windows 10 computer. This will be made available later in 2025, but Microsoft is committed to doing this. If your computer is healthy, and doing everything you want, there is no reason to upgrade to Windows 11 or buy a new computer.
Option 2.There is a private company called 0patch that is zeroPatch). They've been making patches for abandoned Windows and other abandoned Microsoft products for eight years. They are excellent. Often their patches precede Microsoft's and certainly have fewer problems. They only patch significant security issues, and make micropatches. They are committed to supporting Windows 10 with all needed security patches for five years after October 2025. Their patch service is just 24.95 Euros per year, which currently comes to $26.42 American.
Option 3.If you have a new enough computer with a new enough processor, I might be able to upgrade the computer's firmware and then upgrade the computer to Windows 11. This is a 24-hour process. You'll need to schedule an appointment and bring it in on one day, then pick it up the next day. I charge $300 for this service, but will only charge you if I'm successful. If either the Windows upgrade or the firmware upgrade fails, you won't be charged.I can't think of any reason why anyone would select this option. Windows 11 is not $300 better than Windows 10. It is provided for the sake of completeness. ? Further Reading
