Password Manager Emergency Sheet

Preview:Bitwarden Logo

I've designed an emergency sheet for online password managers like Bitwarden or 1Password. This is a PDF fillable form for recording your username and password and email access and a few other things that might be needed in an emergency. It is designed to be downloaded, filled out and then printed and stored securely.

This is an Emergency recovery sheet designed primarily for my clients using Bitwarden, but it should work for any online password manager like 1Password or LastPass as well. This idea is controversial so the problem needs to be examined.

The sheet is a PDF fillable form for you to print out your password manager's login credentials. In addition, any 2FA information, email address and password, and other information that no one can know. Obviously, this is a security risk that lowers your overall security. If someone gets this sheet, then they can access all your passwords, your email account, bank account and everything else you are keeping secure. This is why you should not use this sheet.

On the other hand, if you are getting older, and might forget your password, having it written down is important. Then, there is the chance of a stroke, or accident or death. This sheet is useful in those situations. If you have a safe deposit box or a secure safe, then I don't think there is a question. Print out the sheet and store it in the safe.

You might have another person, like a child or sibling, who has access to your password safe. You could call them if you forgot your password. You might not need this paper copy. On the other hand, you might feel better having these passwords and links printed out in the bottom of your underwear drawer, and feel confident that no one is going to steal your underwear and find it.

The choice is yours. Just think about it and make sure you and someone else can access your passwords in case of dire circumstances.
