Many tax services were selling your private information to Facebook and other services until they got caught. How to tell if a company is going to sell your information.

They are spying on us. I understand that fact, but this one surprised even me. They are taking steps to correct this now that it's been discovered, but assume most other services are selling your information.

Major tax filing services such as H&R Block, TaxAct, and TaxSlayer have been quietly transmitting sensitive financial information to Facebook when Americans file their taxes online, The Markup has learned.

A rule of thumb to determine if a company or service is collecting and selling your personal information.

If their privacy policy is written in small print and/or is over 1/2 page long, they are selling your information. It doesn't take many words to say, "We don't do it."
