Smart Keyword searches

Some years ago, Firefox started calling their address bar the Awesome bar. Here are some examples of one reason for their excitement.

  • If I type ocs modems in the address bar, Firefox searches my website articles for modems.
  • If I type amz router it will search Amazon for routers
  • If I type GIM Firefox it searches Google images for Firefox pictures

I'm sure you get the idea. You can make abbreviations from just about any search box that will be used by Firefox. Here's how:

Go wherever you frequently search and right click inside its search box. Select Add a Keyword for this Search.

Fill out the tiny form and you're done. Then just use your new shortcut in the awesome address bar and you'll be quicker than that spot of sunshine on a February day in Portland.
