Updating TrapsWe know that it is necessary to update our software to close security vulnerabilities. However, when we update, the vendors often try and push other software that we really don't need and probably don't want. It is necessary to be vigilant and deny permission to these additional troublemakers. Here are two examples:When updating RealPlayer, they tried to get me to add a desktop Weather Channel Program. I unchecked it. When installing Irfanview, they tried to get me to install Google Desktop. Again, I just needed to be vigilant and UNCHECK the boxes. We can't blame them for trying to make some money, we just need to be vigilant and not install programs we don't want. Date: September 2008
