How to Leave Comcast Email
Preview:Since Comcast is selling their email service to Yahoo and will be transferring all their accounts to Yahoo, if you have a Comcast email address, I recommend creating a new email address. Don't go to Yahoo; it is terrible. This article explains your best alternatives.
Comcast (Xfinity) sold their email service to Yahoo. This means that if Xfinity is providing your Internet service, then the email address they also provide with it will be moved to Yahoo. They will be doing this gradually for about a year. The problem is that Yahoo is terrible. The address will stay the same, but Yahoo will scan your emails and sell all the information they collect on you and shove advertisements tailored to you on your screen. They are also repeatedly hacked. So I recommend you get a new email service, and when Xfinity offers to move you to Yahoo, you decline. This will end your comcast.net email address. I've written about this. However, here is the system. Two Recommended Email ServicesI recommend that you pay for your email service to a company that isn't going to read your emails and show advertisements tailored to you. Then sell the profile they create about you. Just pay $20 - 25/year and get a good service. Runbox Porkbun Even Better!Even better than getting a good email service is to buy your own domain and get a new service. Instead of having your email at "myname@gmail.com” or "myname@comcast.net,” I recommend that you buy your own domain. Then if you decide to change your email service, you can just do that and keep your system. To figure out how to do this, step by step, I researched the easiest way to do it and end up with a good email service. My choice was Porkbun. Here's what I did. I went to Porkbun and asked what domains I could buy that were steveshank.something. They offered lots of them. I already own steveshank.com. But I could buy steveshank.dev, or steveshank.pro, or steveshank.me, or many, many more. There were also many other options. For example, if I wanted just shank, I could get shank.one, shank.onl, shank.my, and more. I could also buy sshank.one, sshank.xyz, sshank.me, and many more. I chose steveshank.one and bought it for less than $20/year. Then I decided to use Porkbun to also handle my new domain's email. When I helped a client who purchased their domain from Cloudflare and had their email at runbox, we had trouble figuring out exactly how to get Cloudflare to protect it from spoofing and other things. If instead of making Runbox and Cloudflare communicate with each other, I just had Porkbun communicate with itself. If you use the same company to buy and maintain your domain and also your email, then you don't need to figure out how to get two companies to work together. So, I set up an email account with Porkbun immediately. It was $24/year. When I added the safety precautions to protect against spoofing, which had been difficult with Cloudflare, Porkbun had a button! I clicked the button, and in about 5 minutes, it was done. Everything worked. It took less than an hour from when I decided to buy a domain until I owned my own domain and an email service and was able to send and receive emails from my desktop application. It also has a webmail system. This is the simplest way to do it.Porkbun made it so easy; it is the simplest way to do it. However, there is no reason you couldn't buy your domain from Cloudflare or Hover and then use runbox or some other service for your email. It is just that you have to figure out how to get the two systems working together. If you do that frequently, it isn't very hard. But if you are not experienced, it can take a while. More Porkbun informationHow to set up DKIM and DMARC. DKIM prevents messages from being altered in transit. It stands for DomainKeys Identified Mail. DMARC prevents email spoofing and uses SPF. DMARC stands for Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance. These are some things that need to be set up between your email provider and your domain registrar. Porkbun does it with a single button! After setting up your new email address, use Xfinity's auto-reply feature to let anyone using your Comcast.net address know to use your new one instead.
